  • Hello! I have a week and a half off uni!!!!!! Nice feeling that is.

Miss me any? Want to hear of my adventures since last post? Yes, tell us more I hear you cry!

    Ok then.....

Life has mostly been taken up with CU, studying, working, ceilidhs, road trips (my kind ;) ), the odd Bible study at WiG (not as often as last year which saddens me, they're funny thought provoking people) and random trips to Troon and Hawick.

Most exciting events since last August include a week spent near Wales at a training conference for people involved in Christian Unions across the country. Was a most wonderful week. Had lots of teaching (Brother Andrew the founder of Open Doors spoke at it along with others. He is amazing) and also some fun after hour activities. One of which included me performing (along with others) in an open mic night. On stage and everything! Aren't you proud of me?! I would tell you what this 'performance' entailed....... but I'm ashamed. It means I was a member of the 17. If anyone figures out what that means I'll be impressed. Please do keep it to yourself if ya do find out though!

Other most excellent adventures include a week of volunteering for the Glasgow Internationals welcome programme. Was great to chat with some of the internationals that were coming to study here. I found it amazing that so many people travelled that far without having organised anywhere to stay! Very laid back people. Especially when you take into consideration the fact that I was helping some of them find accommodation! And yes I also gave people directions..... and no I don't think they got lost! Haven't seen many of them since though...... oh well. Such is life. Got to hang about lots at the airport that week aswell. Good times.

There has also been fun had at CU. And Audrey's been a few times this year! A more faithful prayer breakfast attendee than me too. She beats me. That means she wins. Which means I'm a loser. Shameful! Many a good time has also been had in Troon and Hawick. Lesley got Heather and I space hoppers for Christmas so we could race on them! Wonderful. Mines has been nicknamed Peter. For he is like a rock. But I'll stand by him. Even though he never won any races.

As for the ceilidhs.... every one made me smile. A lot. All were very different though. And I got to go to my first ever hogmany ceilidh. Can't think of a better way to start the year :)

God has been teaching me a lot this past while. I've had to learn to wait on Him. Though He is more than enough for me. Circumstances are ever changing like always, which unnerves me a bit. It's so easy to forget that life here is temporal.

God has a plan for this world. And we're involved in that plan. How truly amazing.

I'm off now to get sorted for a weekend of Hawick, CU organising and then Sunday! I've come to appreciate Sundays a lot more....

  • Summer road trips

in just a few thousand words....

    Checking oil levels

Attempting to check oil levels the night before we were venturing off to the borders. It took 3 girls, 1 guy and 1 phonecall to a responsible adult, but we did it! Be proud of us people.

    navigator Heather

This wonderful girl was our designated map reader. However, even she couldn't spot the mysterious junction six on the M8. If anyone out there can, I'll be seriously impressed.

    guess what

The drive down to Galashiels was pretty spectacular in places, though we did struggle to find things to do when we arrived there. Admist out exploring the most exciting things we found were a trolly in a river and a man who eats marigolds and puts them in his hair.

    Hawick018

This is Harry the heron from Hawick. Which is also on the borders.

    Hawick015

A waterfall near Lesley's home in Hawick.

    Hawick004

Tree climbing in the borders..... as you do.

    Hawick023

And we laugh when we try to cut melon. Every time.

  • Been a fair few places since uni's finished for summer. I've liked it.

Went on a wee road trip to Montrose last weekend, visiting one of the impact (church of scotland missions) teams for their family fun day at the beach. Much fun. Even if it rained a bit! Though it dried up for the bbq which was grand. There was also lots of games (funness) and playing in the sea.

Joined in the sandcastle making competition. Though this resulted in very sore legs at the end of the day (people neglected to tell me, after numerous trips running to and from the sea with bucketfuls of water, that you need to dig down to the water table when making a moat otherwise the water just sinks on down. Man I felt like a muppet!) was also attacked by the one of the wee girls with sand as I ran to the sea and back. You might call it sabotage. We didn't even win. Possibly because we didn't have any kids on our team. And then the kids destoyed out sandcastle when we weren't looking!

Still distraught about that as you can tell.

    Still more places to see.

    Looking forward to seeing them.

  • Life has been full of exciting things these last few weeks.

Though I have some very exciting news. You'd never guess.

Last Friday was a very big moment in my life. Something I've never even dreamed of.

It all started on Thursday when I was meeting Heather and her lil bro Stephen before we went to an indoor bbq for a Bible study social. I met them in our uni library where some very important looking people were setting up ground floor for the filming of the grand final of mastermind (famous British quiz show). We thought this rather cool and even got the lift to the ground floor for a closer look. It was from the floor above however, that we spotted THE leather chair that has been graced by many contestants of mastermind. We gazed in amazement from afar and thought how splendid it would be to sit on such a chair. At that moment it just so happened that there was a poster advertising that some free tickets to be in the audience of the final may be available. So, after a few phone calls, it turned out that some people had returned two tickets and we would be more than welcome to them. (Heather's brother was shaking his head at our so called 'uncool' enthusiasm at this point).

After a fun filled Thursday night, Heather and I showed up at uni on Friday for the filming. We were taken to a conference room with others who would be in the audience. I must say, we felt a tad out of place at this point, wearing jeans and t-shirt whilst everyone else looked rather grown up and smart in suits and jackets. Whoopsee. We survived by hiding in a corner and one of the waitress's took pity on us and looked after us with free water bottles and the likes. She was lovely.

Anyways, after sitting through the filming for about three hours, we waited til most people had left and asked one of the floor managers if we would be able to sit on the chair. We were told yes! How great is that?! As long as we were quick. We may have amused a few of the backstage people as we took some quick pics with Heathers camera of us on the chair.

So, long story short I got to sit on the mastermind chair! Score!

    Feeling ultracool right now.

  • Currently Watching
Toy Story & Toy Story 2 (2 Pack)
By Tim Allen, Jack Angel, Spencer Aste (II), Greg Berg, Lisa Bradley
    see related

Words that describe my life since last Wednesday.....

prayer meeting, pirate parties, trips to the lighthouse, taking wacky pictures at said lighthouse, winning the 'who can stuff the most crakers in their mouth' game, loch lomond, boat rides, ignoring 'no entry' signs, numerous board games, troon, frisbee on the beach, sweetie hunts, party hats, climbing trees, dog breeders, eating crepes, making daisy chains..... I'm not much of a grown up am I?

Latest news is that the internationals society won't have anyone on their committee next year because all that have been on the committee the past few years are leaving. Thats a big problem. Won't be anyone to sort out membership, trips, events etc. I'm the link between the internationals society and the CU this year, gonna have my work cut out! Have the summer to relax at least. Though must find a job.

Got me some ceilidhs lined up for this week. Bliss.
